Friends Of Jesmond Old Cemetery has attracted a range of individuals, friends, colleagues, and families to join together and get involved with the current regeneration and conservation projects taking place at the cemetery.
The motto is simple; many hands make light work, so the more the merrier. We are a friendly bunch of Friends and would make every effort to make all newcomers feel very welcome and appreciated.
As the Friends group has developed and moved on from a small informal group of activists, a more structured Committee approach has had to be adopted, particularly now that the Friends group is attracting financial support from various local sources.
Ray Hayes, who has taken on the role of Secretary, having been influential in starting the Friends group.
Nigel Burn and Gordon Hayes, who have volunteered to act as joint Treasurers and, as such, are charged with ensuring that all donations are appropriately managed in line with fulfilling the Friends' stated aims.
Anna Walsh has volunteered to act as the Chairperson.
In addition to the above, Martin Hayes is utilising his creative skills in his role as the Webmaster and is responsible for maintaining the content of the Friends' web site.
However, it must be stressed that, whilst the above roles are relevant and required in terms of 'managing' the organisation, the really important people are the ones who regularly give up their free time to contribute to the cause.
